The build

Seiko quartz chronograph

Accurate to seconds a month, with years between batteries and no servicing. A reliable mechanical chronograph starts above £1,000. This one is £159.

316L stainless steel

Marine-grade steel, the same used in watches many times the price, with a mineral glass crystal over the dial. There is no plating to wear through and reveal something cheaper underneath.

50 metres of water

Every case is pressure tested to 50 metres before it ships. Rain, washing up and swimming are all fine. Like every chronograph, the pushers stay put underwater.

Ziega is a British microbrand chronograph watch, sold direct at £159. A Seiko VD53 quartz chronograph made in Japan, in a 40mm 316L stainless steel case on a solid steel bracelet. Every case is pressure tested to 50 metres before it ships.

Manufacturing is done by specialist partners overseas, as it is for almost every microbrand at any price. Ziega specifies the watch, checks it, numbers it, and stands behind it for 12 months.

It is quartz rather than mechanical, and the crystal is mineral glass rather than sapphire. Better you know that now than when it lands.
